    Phew!

Well that was an original title for a steaming hot day!
Everyone has come to a standstill in this house, the cat, Poob, manages to walk about 6 steps before throwing himself onto the floor and lies there belly up, four feet in the air, and the dogs are much the same.
Poor old Dreda still awaits her operation, it seems that her heart is very weak, so they are giving her all sorts of medication and the anaesthetist (spelling looks dodgy) will be reviewing her again tomorrow. Poor little soul, and I really mean little - she is about 4'8" and 5st wet through -is on so much pain killer that she is seeing and hearing stuff. I really wish I had it in me to write a book about this family, upstairs downstairs meets camomile lawn!
On the plus side I have made a very fit looking batch of apricot and goosberry jam today, and this evening I have just picked two and a half pounds of raspberries in the garden, one of the canes had snapped under the weight of the fruit, and the slugs are having a lovely time of it, frankly I am happy to have 'them' all in one place in the garden, while they are there they are leaving the other stuff alone. Yuk! HATE THEM.

    midnight feet

I retired at a sesible time for once but had cramp in my toes, they were determined to curl at right angles to my feet. Like all good people I have read 'I am John's circulatory system' in the Readers Digest, and decideing that I must be dehydrated I drank 2 pints of water before going back to bed. Now I'm up to the loo every 10 minutes, but the cramp has gone! So you have the pleasure of my company until all things have subsided.
Our old of 96 years fell yesterday and thanks to the benefit of a 'care line' I was able to be with her within 20 minutes and call for an ambulance. She has fractured her hip and will undergo an operation tomorrow, "providing there are no emergency ops to perform which will take precedence". Well, you can imagine my reaction to that one! Don't get me wrong, emergencies are in need of being seen to promptly, but I think my 96 year old cousin who is in great pain requires prompt attention also. So if any of you have a spare bit of positive energy you could send in Dreda's direction, she really needs it. Needless to say, the candle is lit here.

    Happy birthday to me!

Happy Birthday to my space tomorrow 6/7/2006! Can't beleive it's a year.

    Warm, is it not?

Dunoon was sunny and as lovely as ever. We had an amazing view over the Firth of Clyde from our window, and as John said when he saw the photo's, I was obviously taken by it, as these pictures were all there were on the camera! Not true, there was another of J's sister looking gormless beside a pipe band in Oban! (Her words).
One of the main things about these coach tours are the people you meet, and on this one we met Nellie and Stan from Sunderland. Nellie hadn't been as far as Newcastle before and their family had bought them this weekend as a gift to celebrate their Golden Wedding. Bless her, she was in awe of everything, and when the coach was driven onto the Gourick - Dunoon ferry, she was almost to take away. This is a 25 minute crossing, but she talked about it all the weekend as though we had been on a cruise. Her other serious interest was Stan's bowels. The first morning she appeared without Stan for breakfast, we asked if Stan was OK and she assured us that he was fine, 'just having a long sit' and that he would be down soon. He was, and her greeting to him was, 'Well, what did you have'? And in answer he gave a full and graphic account of what would soon be entering the Clyde! Not really what you wanted to hear over your sausages. They really were innocents abroad and they clung onto Hilda and I like limpets. We really didn't mind because while they were simple naive people, they were also a delight, and I have to say (without any malice) afforded Hilda and I total hysteria every night once we got to our room. I would just be dropping off and I would hear Hilda giggling, of course this set me off and away we would go again.
So here's to Nellie and Stan, God Bless 'em.
